COMMON ISSUES FOUND IN COMPRESSED AIR SYSTEMS

Common issues found in compressed air systems include: Compressors running hot, water in the air lines, not enough air, and tripping the breaker. In this blog post we will be taking these common issues and walk through the causes and affect of these issues.

1. Compressors running hot

All compressors have an “optimal operating temperature” based off of the type and manufacture. If a compressor is operating above that temperature it will cause the oil/coolant to break down faster making it less effective and causing premature compressor failure.

Causes of a compressor running hot can be from one or multiple of the following:

  • Oil live has been exceeded (Oil life is justified by the run time and environment)
  • Dirty oil cooler, oil filter or separator filter
  • Malfunction in the thermal valve
  • Failure in the compressor pump/airend

Affect of a compressor running hot will be premature failure of pump and/or components in the oil circuit and if equipped with high temp safety switch unit will shut itself down.

Take away from this paragraph. Do not let your compressor run hot. Prevent a catastrophic repair by taking the proper steps in making sure your compressor is operating at “optimal operating temperature”. Contact us today and we can help you!

2. Water in the air lines

Water in the air lines can be a big problem for some more than others. Water can ruin pneumatic tools, machinery, or product. Compressors will put water into the system. Depending what you have after your compressor will determine how much water you will experience at the end use. Some causes of water in the air lines are:

  • No or non working air dryer or filtration
  • Compressor running hot
  • No or non working water drains

The affects of water in your air lines include: ruining pneumatic tools, machinery, or product. Excessive rust inside the piping, restriction of air flow and volume.

3. Not enough air

A common issues found in compressed air systems is you are not getting enough air. Is the air pressure low? Here are the most common reasons you may not be getting enough air:

  • Restriction in air line
  • Compressor is to small
  • Air leaks
  • Piping is to small
  • Compressor and/or water drains not functioning properly
  • Consuming more air (adding more equipment/tools)

Affects of not enough air will include loss of production.

4.Tripping the breaker

Tripping the breaker actually happens a lot here in Florida. Some of the causes of a tripped breaker are but not limited to as follows:

  • Incoming power voltage drop
  • Bad Motor or pump/airend
  • Undersized breaker/overload
  • Loose connection

When your compressor trips the breaker it can cause missive amounts of lost product or production. Do not let that happen to you. Our professional trained technicians can do a thorough inspection. This will allow us to see if your motor or pump/airend is bad. Contact one of our friendly team members today!
